Jobs at Participatory Culture

Participatory Culture Foundation, which makes the Miro platform, is looking for world-class talent to join our organization. We are a new non-profit organization and are building a small, focused team that rivals the talent and quality of any for-profit software company. (Are you doing amazing work for a company that you don't really believe in? Quit your job and work for us. Seriously.) We are based in Worcester, MA but we work with individuals around the world. You don't need to be local, but if you are, even better.

We want to fill the positions below as soon as possible. If you're interested, please be in touch right away; we don't need fancy resumes, just good, clear info about what you've been up to. Women and people of color are strongly encouraged to apply.

Ad Sales Director

OVERVIEW

Miro needs a seasoned online ad executive to jump start our ad sales process, build an ad sales team, and help guide our advertising strategy.

ABOUT MIRO

Miro is a powerful tool for finding, organizing and watching TV shows online. An entirely open source desktop application, Miro manages video podcasts, video web sites, and bittorrent. Miro comes with a content library of almost 5,000 TV shows with over a hundred thousand episodes, all free and legal. According to CNET, Miro is the world's second most popular podcast client after iTunes and we are rapidly growing into a major player in the world of online video.

MIRO'S MISSION

Miro is built by Participatory Culture Foundation, a non-profit organization driven by two goals. First, work to drive adoption of open technology for online video. Second we work to create technologies and outlets that nurture a thriving online ecosystem for independent video creators. Miro follows in the footsteps of Wikipedia and Firefox, both hugely important pieces of public interest technology built by non-profit organizations.

THE POSITION

You must have deep experience in online ad sales and ad sales management. You must be capable of getting your hands dirty to sell our inventory, and of hiring and managing an ad sales team as ad revenues grow.

You will be responsible not only for selling our video and display ad inventory, but also for managing the related partnerships, overseeing the integration of ad management technology and using your knowledge of online advertising to inform our product strategy as needed.

You must understand and care about Miro's mission.

You will have the option to work remotely. If located near San Francisco, New York or Boston you will be located near other Miro team members. Our offices are located in Worcester, Massachusetts.

You will be well paid.

Software Developer

We're looking for a top-notch programmer who can work independently, communicate well, and occasionally step back from the code to contemplate improvements to program architecture or our development process.

Miro presents an exciting real world challenge: creating cross platform desktop software that interacts with a heterogeneous set of third party libraries and provides an easy to use interface on each platform. We build on existing free peer to peer and media libraries where we can.

Miro is written in Python, so solid understanding of Python or a similar dynamic language is a must. A solid understanding of C and C++ is also a requirement.

We are based in Worcester, MA but do not require that the developer move to Worcester-- you may work remotely. This is a full-time position working on Miro related projects.

The best way to get a programming job with us is to fix a couple Miro bugs and submit the patches so that we can see your work and your ability to work on our codebase.

TO APPLY: Send a short note about why you're interested in working with us along with a resume to jobs[at]pculture.org.
