A Grant from Mozilla
I am absolutely thrilled to announce today that we’ve received a grant from Mozilla, creators of Firefox. Mozilla shares our mission, almost to the letter– they are a non-profit, building open tools that defend and expand the fundamentally democratic nature of the internet. What they are doing for the web, we want to do for video.
I am so proud of our team for building Democracy Player (soon to be called Miro) to the point that we have a chance to make an real impact on mass media. We aren’t there yet, but I feel like we’re moving within striking distance.
Having Mozilla’s support is a vote of confidence that we deeply appreciate. Here’s Mozilla’s announcement of the grant.

Well done. One thing I don’t understand is how you guys have kept such a low profile so far? I’m sure there must be many other open-source supporters like me, who simply haven’t heard of you until this deal.
I’ve downloaded the player and we’ll see if you can replace VLC as my favourite player. Good luck and best wishes for the future.

“Until then, get democracy.” This is great news, and I don’t mind the new name.

Just tried to visit the miro site and it wouldn’t let me load the page unless I entered a user and pass. What’s up with that?

Josh– the getmiro.com site is under development, so things are shifting around often. It should be showing the splash page again soon.

Nicholas Reville - I was just a little surprised

I had taken a look at the miro site the day before and everything was working fine for me. So when I went back the next day the password window kinda threw me for a loop
